How to do bent side laterals

Bent side lateral, is a one-joint exercise that isolates the posterior deltoid.  Again, for the whole muscle to get strong, all of its parts must be worked.

Here is how you would perform this exercise.

1.  Sit on a flat bench and bend forward at the waist.

2.  Let the dumbbell hang down at your sides.

3.  With a dumbbell in each hand, bring the dumbbells together, palms facing in.

4.  Bend your elbows slightly as you raise the dumbbells away from the body.

5.  Focus on squeezing your shoulder blades together.

6.  With control, return to the starting position.

Don'ts

-Turn your head left or right.

-Raise your arms quickly, forcing your body forward.

-Allow the dumbbells to clang as you bring them together.

Do's

-Keep your abs tight.

-Maintain slow, controlled movement throughout the exercise.

-Squeeze your shoulder blades together at the top of the movement.
