How to do tricep pushdowns

It's important to push hard at the bottom of the repetition to tighten (cantract) the tricep.  You can use either a rope or bar attachment to perform this exercise; the rope is the harder of the two, and you will typically use less weight than if you were using the bar.

Here is how you would perform this exercise.

1.  Grab hold of the pushdown bar.  Your elbows should be bent to 90 degrees and held close to your side.

2.  Slowly straighten your elbows, and return to your initial starting position.

Don'ts

-Lean forward as you push the weight down.  This reduces the isolation from the triceps and transfers it to your whole body.

-Lock your elbows in the straightened position.

-Allow the weight to fall rapidly.

Do's

-Keep your abdomen tight and your back erect.

-Keep your head facing forward, not down or sideways.

-Keep your elbows close to your side.
